MS Paint Tutorial

This tutorial will help you to use paint! Its fun, easy & free to use! If you dont have paint you can download it here

I will use our annual Desging Your Own Easter Negg event as the example. Below is a template of a blank negg.

Right click over the image & click 'save as'. A box will pop up then click the folder icon that creates a 'new folder'. Name the folder 'Neopets'. Now you have a spacific place to store your images! Now that you have a folder save the 'neggtemplate' to the neopets folder by double clicking on it. Now click the 'Save' button on the box. Congats youve just saved your first image to your new folder!

Click Start, Programs, Acessories, Paint. Now paint should be open on your screen & look something like this.

Now click 'File' at the top, then 'Open' & the box thing will pop up again. In the box is all your folders double click on the 'Neopets' folder & look for the title of your image, in this case the title is 'neggtemplate'. You may have to change the dropdown box to show .GIF images shown here. Mine always pops up as .BMP automaticlly.

Now click the 'neggtemplate' since you have found it & click the 'Open' button on the box. It should look like this now.

At this point you can do absolutely anything! Play with the tools & get used to what they do to create your own negg! I will give some examples to help you out!

The Rectangle will allow you to selecta an area of the image. From there you can move it, copy, cut, paste the section.

Below that is the fill tool which fills any blank spots with color.

The Magnifying Glass lets you see the image closer which is good for working in small spaces or with tiny images like our negg.

The Paint Brush allows you to paint color where ever you move the brush. It has 3 brush sizes small, medium & large. It also has 4 different shapes, circle, square(which you will use most of the time), back & foward slashes.

The big letter A is the text tool. You can write text anywhere you want or write your text in a blank space & move your text useing the rectangle section tool. The choice is yours.

The curve tool allows you to star a line the pick up the line & place it in another positon making it look like a curve. Personally I never have need for it but you might.

The tool below that allows you to make diagonal lines much easier than making them your self. I never use this either lol!

The next tool is good for Blogs! It has 3 options, make an outline, make an outline over a secondary color, & make one solid area of color.

Back to the top theres a star looking tool. Go figure cuz whenever I try to use that thing it makes my image look like crud lol! Sorry your on your own with that one.

Below that is an eraser with 4 different sizes.

Next is the Color Picker tool. You can use it to select a color already on your screen. Its good for getting a color off of an image you saved as well as your own custom colors.

The Pencil is free hand drawng much like the paint brush. Its good for thin lines or filling in small spaces.

The Spray can will create a spray effect in 3 different sizes small, medium & large. The longer you hold the mouse button down while spraying the thicker the paint will be.

The Strait Line tool is good for, well...making strait lines lol! It comes in 5 sizes.

The Square below that works much like the Blog tool only its a square instead & so does the circle tool below it.

I hope this has helped you begin to learn paint, though you still have a long ways to go if you want to master it. Just keep it fun!
